About CFC
Being lead by the words of Jesus Christ, to go and make disciples, several bands of disciples started meeting as house churches with the intent of spreading the Gospel. In time, meeting areas were filled to capacity, thousands of people were being attracted to the Gospel message. Individuals were being trained to be fully devoted followers of Christ, missionaries were commissioned and sent out, and God’s people were impacting their Jerusalem, and other parts of the world!
A scene from the book of Acts? How about Chester County! By the grace of God, Calvary Fellowship Church has been blessed to mirror the story of the developing, growing and disciple-making model found in the book of Acts.
Officially, 1976 marks the historic beginning of CFC when two house churches, one that began in 1970 called Faith Bible Chapel and another that began in 1972 called Calvary Fellowship Church, merged to form one body known today as Calvary Fellowship Church.
From 1976 to 1980 this growing group of believers met in the West Whiteland Fire Hall. What a house of worship! When God said make a joyful noise, we wonder if He had fire sirens in mind?
Soon it was obvious that a permanent site needed to be found for CFC to build a church building. Faith Bible Chapel already owned three acres of land on Township Line Road in Eagle. Recognizing the need for more land and seeking the Lord’s direction, the decision was made, in faith, to sell the three acres and purchase twelve acres in Lionville on Route 113. From the Uwchlan Township’s perspective, it was a perfect concept: Place a church between the residential areas and the commercial areas along Route 113.
In 1978 the first structure was built on CFC’s current site. A forty foot by sixty-foot auditorium (currently our Chapel), kitchen, bathrooms and seven classrooms (currently offices). A two level, 45’ by 45’, educational wing was added in 1982 and in 1986 this structure was expanded by 102’. In the midst of these expansion projects were numerous interior remodeling jobs.
While these structures were being put into place, the excitement and faith of the original bands of disciples had also grown as they realized that God had something special in store for Calvary Fellowship Church. With each construction project, there was a continual commitment to meet the spiritual needs of those individuals God led to CFC. A mission statement was developed by the elders, a commitment to discipleship was reinforced time and time again, and the understanding that a healthy church will, in fact, grow was established.
Reflected in this healthy spiritual growth were individuals who were trusting Jesus Christ as their Savior. Adults, youth and children were being established and built up as disciples and leaders were being trained for small group ministries. Staff members were being added and ultimately, missionaries were commissioned and sent out as modeled in the early church of Acts! Always at the core of every ministry has been the powerful word of God.
As CFC grew, so did the absolute dependence on the Lord. Prayer and faith have become hallmarks of all the ministries of CFC. Prayerful evaluation has gone into every key decision. Decisions to ......
- go to multiple services and multiple Sunday Schools (1983);
- expand our ministry for children to include AWANA (1989), Wonderworks (1990);
- enlarge the Youth Ministry to include Shaper Shop (1992), Visions and Paragon, winter and summer camps, as well as mission trips;
- move from two services to three(1996);
- go from one to five Christmas Eve Services and from one to four Easter Sunday Services;
- add People Encouraging People (1994), DivorceCare (1995), and Singles Together (1999),
- send out missionaries, both career and short term;
- partner with area churches and church plants (Living Rock Church [1999], River Crossing Church [2000]).
As each decision was bathed in prayer, God’s obvious hand in leading was there. With God driven ministries in place, a desire to reach out into the community and a commitment to meet the needs of those that God would send to CFC, there was soon a need to expand the worship facility. In 1991 CFC was privileged to be able to build the current addition. More exciting than the building was the need to return to multiple services six months after the completion of the Main Auditorium! God was growing the band of disciples into a congregation that was learning to impact their families, their community and their world with the Word of God. As they grew into this Biblical community, they prayerfully responded to meet the spiritual needs of CFCers.
As we continued to live out the development of Calvary Fellowship Church, our desire is to stay as close to the original blue print as possible. We will continually teach and preach the whole counsel of God. The scriptures remain the core curriculum for every ministry in our church.
