Summer 2008 Spiritual Formation Classes begin June 22nd on Sunday mornings as follows:

  • The Invisible War:  What Every Believer Needs to Know About Spiritual Warfare June 22 - August 10 at 11:30 am in room 118 (Mike Edelman).  The 8-week DVD course based on Ephesians 6:10-20 will help you prepare to do spiritual battle with the enemy of your soul - and win! You will learn how to clothe yourself with God's "spiritual armor" so you can be confident of your certain victory over the scheming enemy.
  • Summer Series: Carrying Each Other's Burdens June 22 - September 7 at 9:50 am in room 118. This summer Series is composed of 9 modules each focused on the Biblical imperative to carry each other's burdens and in theis way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2).  You are invited to attend any or all of the modules that will be taught by members of The Peacemaker Center counseling team.  Every module is Biblically based and includes extensive use of Scriptures.
  • Helping People Cope With Loss (June 22, 29)   Instructor: Scott Edwards, Hospice Chaplain.  This two week class will help people better understand how to come along side others who are dealing with all kinds of loss, including loss of jobs, finances, marriage, physical abilities and the death of friends and loved ones. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Acts 13:51b)                    
  • Coming Alongside People With Depression (July 6) Instructor: Judy Reid, Executive Director, The Peacemaker Center.  This one week class will cover causes of depression and helping people find light and life while in the darkness of depression.
  • What is Trauma And How Do We Heal From It? (July 13)  Instructor: Judy Reid, Executivie Director, The Peacemaker Center. This one week class will discuss people's responses to and healing from many kinds of trauma including medical emergencies, car accidents, domentic violence and abuse.
  • Addictions:  When Someone You Loves Struggles And You Don't Know What To Do (July 20, 27)  Instructor: Karen Uhler. This 2 week class will discuss causes of all kinds of addictive behaviors, symptoms, what people can do to help and how to overcome addictions.  Karen will explore the concept of generational sin and provide a message of hope for all of us who are influenced in some way by this form of idolatry where we worship things above God.
  • Boundaries Seminar (August 3, 10)  Instructor: Jody Flecken  Jody will be using the book by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend entitled "Boundaries" as a key source in addition to the Bible.  The first class, we will discuss boundaries in relation to God, understanding our own boundary development and laws and myths.  The second class we will discuss the issues related to boundaries with family, friends, at work, and with ourselves.
  • Conflict Resolution (August 17) Instructor: Bayo Jedege.  This one week class will cover principles of resolving conflicts including Ken Sande's 4 goals of conflict resolution, the PAUSE principles, and what often keeps us from resolving conflict.
  • Dealing with the Root Cause of Anger (August 24) Instructor: Rick Creasy  Anger can be devastating to relationships, family and even one's own person health.  One of the first steps in dealing with our anger is to recognize root causes.  Come join our one week session to learn how to identify root causes of our anger, and how reframing our thinking can bring soothing relief to our emotional health.
  • Understanding the Process of Forgiveness (August 31)Instructor: Rick Creasy.  Are you finding it difficult to forgive?  Has a spouse, relative or close friend betrayed you and you're struggling to release the hurt and offer forgiveness?  Have you ever been a victim of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse and feel that to forgive would be impossible?  Many times our rage, anger, frustration, sleepless nights, and even our depression is rooted in a heart of unforgiveness.
  • The Ministry of Intercessory Prayer (September 7) Instructor: Bayo Jegede.  This one week class will answer such questions as: What is intercessory prayer?  What is the purpose of intercessory prayer?  Who are the intercessors?  When do we intercede for others?  All answers and discussions will be based on biblical examples.
  • That You May Believe July 27 - September 7 at 9:50 am in room 124 (Randy Thompson). The Apostle John selected the seven signs used with the apologetic purpose of creating intellectual (that you may believe) and spiritual (that by believing you may have life) conviction about the Son of God.  The 7 signs build a concise case for the Deity of Christ. Signs authenticate Jesus as the Son of God, the only One who could take away sin.  This 7-week class will benefit the person exploring the claims of Christ, the new believer getting started on his/her journey with Christ and the growing disciple who is looking to be more intentional in his/her witness to a lost world in need of Christ.
  • Effective Parenting in a Defective World June 22 - August 24 at 9:50 am in room 1 (Bob VanArsdale). In a world full of peer pressure, busy schedules, and conflicting messages, Christian parenting is a challenge.  Your desire is to raise confident kids who follow God, not the world.  In Effective Parenting in a Defective World, Chip Ingram offers practical helps for bringing up children who feel secure and significant.  He provides age-approiate parenting tips, information on how to model right living, effective discipline, and action steps.
  • Book of the Bible Look for more information regarding a Bible Class to be offered in the July-August timeframe at 11:30 am.
