Spiritual Formation at CFC

And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.  2 Corinthians 3:18

God is in the process of transforming every believer into the image of Christ. The call for Christians throughout the New Testament is to be growing toward maturity in Christ. Peter tells us to grow up in our salvation (1 Peter 2:2). James commands us to persevere through trials so that we may become mature (James 1:3-4). And Paul exhorts us to actively participate in the maturing process of every believer as we mature and grow up into the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16).This transformation process is a work of God's grace as we abide in Christ and walk in obedience to Him moment-by-moment.

The Lord Jesus commands us to "go and make disciples of all nations" in Matthew 28:18-20. This disciple making process starts with sharing the hope of new life through faith in the Lord Jesus with those who are Exploring Christ. When someone receives the free gift of eternal life he/she becomes a Christ Follower. New Christians begin to grow deep roots and are established in the faith as they grow toward maturity in Christ. As a Growing Disciple, the focus shifts to being equipped for works of service and ministry. As disciples mature in the faith they grow into Spiritual Mentors, coming alongside others who are in the early stages of growing in Christ.

As we pursue the Lord’s command to “go and make disciples of all nations” in Matthew 28:18-20, this list many of the characteristics of a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ who is experiencing the kind of life change that God will bring about in all of His children.

We tend to make the Christian life much more complex than God intended. A transformed life must be centered on Jesus Christ. Jesus instructs us to simply live as branches abiding in the vine. As we demonstrate our love for God through a life of surrender and obedience we experience the abundant life that Jesus promises (John 15). Our growing love for God is fueled by a deep love for the Word of God and Prayer. Our love for people is demonstrated through Intimate Fellowship with other believers and Proclaiming the Gospel in word and deed with those who are searching for hope and healing.

The Navigators Ministry has a wonderful tool that summarize this concept. Click on this link for an explanantion of the Navigator's Wheel and the balanced Christian life of love for God, love for people and life change.
